In its 2017 annual report, IPIS gives an overview of its research projects and activities. It covers the four research programmes that IPIS focusses on: natural resources, arms trade, conflict mapping and business and human rights.  IPIS explains among others its mapping work of artisanal mining sites in the Democratic Republic of Congo,  its work on Human Rights in mining in Northwest Tanzania and on Business and Human Rights in Tanzania and its conflict mapping in Central African Republic. In 2017, IPIS also engaged in research on roadblocks as a key mechanism of conflict funding in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Central African Republic,  and on the wildlife security nexus.  IPIS continued to develop interactive and static maps to visualise the findings of our data collection and reseach.

IPIS does not only engage in research, but is also an active member in different networks and platforms, including the Kimberley Process Civil Society Coalition and the European Partnership for Responsible Minerals.
