Between 22–23 April 2015 IPIS was invited to participate in a two-day informal expert group meeting for UNIDIR’s project “Examining Options and Models for Harmonization of End Use/r Control Systems” (http://www.unidir.org/programmes/process-and-practice/examining-models-for-harmonization-of-end-use-r-control-systems). The objective of the informal expert meeting was to review common positions on practices and procedures, as well as to explore approaches and methods to harmonize end use/r control systems at the regional and global levels, in order to enhance cooperation and strengthen controls in combating diversion of arms. Brian Wood and Peter Danssaert were asked to present their findings from their 2011 United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) Occasional Paper “Study on the Development of a Framework for Improving End-use and End-user Control Systems” (http://www.un.org/disarmament/publications/occasionalpapers/21/).
