Data collection on peace, development and human rights is an essential part of the research work we do at IPIS. Because we believe in the power of Open Data to stimulate research that contributes to our vision of durable peace, sustainable development and the fulfilment of human rights, we are happy to announce that we are now providing structured access to some of our key datasets.
Our data collection in the field informs the analysis we make and the reports we deliver. IPIS uses the data to develop interactive webmaps. Upon request we have shared our data with scholars, researchers, students and other organisation to feed into their research and analysis. Feedback on the content and the use of our data and maps has been very positive so far. In order to further unleash the potential of data, we must ensure that the data are easy to access and easy to use.
IPIS starts this off with opening the dataset on display in our most recent DRC conflict webmap. We provide a table listing all our visits to mining sites in DRC since 2009. This table features a selection of some key columns with information on mining sites, minerals and armed actors.
We are using open standards to provide a user-friendly interface to download our data in a variety of formats, and a direct connection for GIS software. This data is available under the ‘Open Data Commons Attribution License (ODC-BY) v1.0’, which only requires a correct attribution to IPIS every time you use our data (see the full license and the human-readable summary).
