IPIS, Missing Maps and OpenStreetMap Belgium organise the mapping event ‘Missing Maps mapathon’ on Wednesday December 9th at the IPIS library!

The Missing Maps project is an open collaboration between the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), Doctors without Borders UK, and the British and American Red Cross. The goal of the project is to map the areas of the world that are the most sensitive to humanitarian crisis. Having a map ready helps efficient and fast interventions in times of the greatest need. Doing so in OpenStreetMap ensures that the data is available free to everyone in any desired format.

IPIS Research and Openstreetmap Belgium invite you to come map for the Missing Maps with us. Doing so, you will learn how to create the open maps that make the work of NGOs like Doctors without Borders or IPIS Research easier. After the event, you are able to continue helping to put the world’s most vulnerable people on the map!

Places are limited, so register for free NOW!

Should I be a cartographer, mapping or computer expert?

No, mapping for OpenStreetMap is for everyone! We will be giving an introduction for newbies.

What will we be mapping?

We will map a part of the DR Congo where villages and roads are missing from Openstreetmap. This will put these places on the map for the first time, while being an easy task for beginners.

What should I bring?

A laptop, a computer mouse and cartographic enthusiasm! If you don’t have a laptop, don’t worry, we will provide a few. But do register a special ticket, so we can organize ourselves.

Where is the event?

In the IPIS vzw library!
