Arnim Langer

Arnim Langer is Professor of International Politics at KU Leuven. He is the Director of the Center for Peace Research and Development (CRPD), UNESCO Chair holder in Building Sustainable Peace and Program Director of Political Science. 

Prof. Arnim Langer conducts research on the causes and consequences of violent conflict as well as the challenges and ways to achieve sustainable peace in post-conflict and/or other polarised countries. He researches how group or horizontal inequalities are perceived in different multi-ethnic countries and how this affects group relations and social cohesion. Prof. Armin also studies under what conditions peace education can contribute to sustainable peacebuilding. The geographical focus of his research is very diverse with research projects in a range of African and Asian countries, including Kenya, D.R. Congo, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Indonesia and India, among others.

In carrying out his research, he works closely with several international research institutes and universities, including, among others, Oxford Department of International Development (ODID), Oxford University, Research Unit in Behavioural Economics and Neuroeconomics (RUBEN), University of Cape Town (UCT), Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, University of Nairobi, Kenya and Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, India.
