Training on cartography and artisanal mine site inspections – Mambasa, Ituri, DRCongo

From 10 to 14 December 2016, IPIS organised a training on cartography and artisanal mine site inspections in Mambasa, Ituri. The aim of this training was to launch and prepare the ground for IPIS’ artisanal gold monitoring pilot, financed by the Public-Private Alliance for responsable minerals trade (PPA).

On the first day, around 25 representatives of SAESSCAM (state service for assistance and support of small-scale mining), Mining Division, mine site managers and civil society participated in interactive sessions on the national, regional and international frameworks for responsible minerals.

The four subsequent days were dedicated to the intensive training of SAESSCAM and civil society surveyors who will conduct joint mine site inspection missions between January and June 2017. Two IPIS researchers, two experienced local surveyors and the new IPIS focal point in Bunia engaged with these future surveyors to instruct them on conducting mine site inspections, geology, planning field missions, risk management, mobile data collection, confidentiality, expected results and the follow-up of performances.

    

    

Formation de cartographie et inspection des sites miniers artisanaux – Mambasa, Ituri, RDCongo

Du 10 au 14 Décembre 2016, IPIS a animé une formation de cartographie et inspection des sites miniers artisanaux à Mambasa en Ituri. Le but de cette formation était de lancer et préparer le terrain pour le Projet Pilote de Monitoring l’Or Artisanal, financé par l’Alliance Public-Privé pour le commerce responsable de minerais (PPA) .

Le premier jour, environ 25 représentants du SAESSCAM (Service d’assistance et d’encadrement du small-scale mining), Division des Mines, administrateurs du foyer  minier et de la société civile on participé aux sessions interactives sur les cadres nationaux, regionaux et internationaux pour l’approvisionnement responsable des minerais.

Les quatres jours suivants, IPIS a organisé une formation intensive des enquêteurs du SAESSCAM et de la société civile de Mambasa qui feront des inspections des sites miniers conjointes entre Janvier et Juin 2017. Deux chercheurs IPIS, deux enquêteurs expérimentés et le nouveau point focale IPIS à Bunia ont instrué les enquêteurs futurs sur l’inspection des sites miners, la géologie, la planifcation des descentes de terrain, la gestion des risques, la collecte mobile des données, la confidentialité, les résultats attendus, et le suivi des performances.
