Simon initially joined IPIS as a GIS and Data Analysis intern in September 2023 and now works as a GIS and Data Researcher within the GIS team. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Mainz (JGU), where his research focused on postcolonial relations, land redistribution, and conflict minerals, with a regional emphasis on Southern Africa. Through his interdisciplinary education in engineering, social sciences, and natural sciences, he has developed a comprehensive understanding of global processes and human-environment interactions. During his tenure at IPIS, he developed a keen interest in conflict mapping, remote sensing, and data visualisation, recognising their potential to provide valuable insights into complex geopolitical and environmental challenges.
