Maureen Walschot is an environment, peace, and security expert with over 10 years of experience in transboundary natural resource management, gender issues, climate resilience, and security, particularly in Latin America, and the SWANA region, including Israel-Palestine and Afghanistan. Maureen joined IPIS as a researcher in September 2024, focusing on human rights and environmental due diligence related to mineral extraction and arms trade. She is also the co-founder of The Tide ASBL, an NGO dedicated to catalyzing transformative change toward a sustainable and equitable future by addressing the intersection of environmental challenges, gender inequality, and security threats.
Maureen is a university lecturer at UCLouvain, where she teaches courses on environment, peace, and security. She has worked on numerous international projects, including with UNESCO, EcoPeace Middle East, and various academic and research institutions, specializing in data analysis and developing policy recommendations for climate resilience and transboundary resource management. Maureen holds a dual Ph.D. in International Relations from the Université catholique de Louvain and Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of Haifa, along with a Master’s degree in International Relations and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Sciences.
