On Saturday, November 5, the riot police broke up a demonstration<\/a> by opposition (\u201cRassemblement\u201d) supporters in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo<\/a>, by firing tear gas. Along with the United Nations, a coalition of civil society organisations called for lifting the ban on manifesting in the capital, which has been in place since September this year. Civil society and Human Rights Watch also denounced the blocking of media stations\u2019 radio signals and arrests of journalists who give the floor to opposition voices.<\/p>\n

On Monday, November 7, at least seven people died and several others were injured during an attack by Mai Mai rebels in Lubero territory, North Kivu<\/a>. In Goma, one civilian was killed and over 30 peacekeepers injured by an explosion near a MONUSCO exercise site. One person was killed in Uvira, South Kivu<\/a>, during violent confrontations between Congolese soldiers and Mai Mai elements on November 5. In Bafwasende, Tshopo<\/a> province, two soldiers were killed and two civilians were gravely injured during clashes among soldiers. On November 4, UPC elements clashed with the military in Mambasa territory, Ituri<\/a>. Reportedly, 10 rebels and two soldiers died.<\/p>\n

In Uganda<\/a>, the police killed two people who allegedly attacked them during a search operation for the killers of a UPDF soldier on Friday, November 4. Over the past three months, about 60 police officers have been tried for transgressions like defying commanders’ orders and extortion.<\/p>\n

Des militants congolais affrontent depuis samedi 5 novembre des miliciens Ma\u00ef-Ma\u00ef dans le village Mahungubwe \u00e0 Uvira (Sud-Kivu). Selon des sources locales, ce sont les Ma\u00ef-Ma\u00ef du chef de guerre Mwenyemali venus de la localit\u00e9 de Kahanda qui ont attaqu\u00e9 le village de Mahungubwe. L\u2019arm\u00e9e aurait ripost\u00e9, d\u00e9clenchant des violents affrontements. Une femme, refugi\u00e9e rwandaise, a \u00e9t\u00e9 tu\u00e9e apr\u00e8s avoir re\u00e7u une balle perdue a la t\u00eate.<\/span><\/p>\n

Selon des t\u00e9moins, tout a commenc\u00e9 lorsqu\u2019un militaire a abattu un autre soldat. Choqu\u00e9 par ce geste, un autre militaire a imm\u00e9diatement r\u00e9agi en tirant \u00e9galement sur le premier militaire qui a abattu son coll\u00e8gue. Il en est mort.<\/span><\/p>\n
