The night of Sunday, 23 August, saw three fatalities and several wounded in clashes between the FARDC and bandits in the Kyeshero district of Goma. Meanwhile, in <a href=\"#SK\">South Kivu<\/a> this week, two farmers were killed in an attempted cattle raid by Mai-Mai Karakara on Wednesday, 19 August, in the Ruzizi Plains. In <a href=\"#K\">Katanga<\/a>, the Bakata Katanga is reported to be establishing its own political wing, whilst in <a href=\"#PO\">Province Orientale<\/a>, a land dispute saw the burning down of fifty homes in Djungu territory on Monday, 24 August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">In Burundi, as Nkurunziza was <a href=\"#3T\">sworn in<\/a> for a controversial third term on Thursday, 20 August, <a href=\"#PV\">political violence<\/a> in the country continued with the shooting of a third term opposition activist east of the capital on Sunday, and the release of an Amnesty report detailing the use of torture by Burundian security forces to extract confessions and silence dissent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">In the Central African Republic, as the UN released details of recent further sex abuse allegations, the UN sanctions committee imposed an asset freeze on the Badica\/Kardiam firm for providing support to armed groups in the CAR\u00a0through illegal trading in diamonds and gold. Inter-communal violence in <a href=\"#Bam\">Bambari<\/a>\u00a0saw at least 15 dead and 20 wounded over the weekend commencing Friday, 21 August. The Central African government has announced the launch on an enquiry into these events.
