{"id":18794,"date":"2020-10-16T13:17:17","date_gmt":"2020-10-16T11:17:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/\/?post_type=publication&#038;p=18794"},"modified":"2024-04-15T11:53:37","modified_gmt":"2024-04-15T09:53:37","slug":"the-impact-of-covid-19-on-artisanal-mines-in-western-car","status":"publish","type":"publication","link":"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/nl\/publication\/the-impact-of-covid-19-on-artisanal-mines-in-western-car\/","title":{"rendered":"The impact of Covid-19 on artisanal mines in western CAR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To assess the socio-economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the artisanal and small-scale sector in the Central African Republic (CAR), IPIS conducted a series of phone interviews targeting key informants to collect information on minerals production, prices and illegal taxation on gold and diamond artisanal mining sites in western CAR.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In May 2020, IPIS&#8217; teams conducted a phone-based data collection on 105 mining sites, employing an estimate of about 26,350 workers. A second round of phone consultations with key informants was realised on 175 mining sites in July 2020 .
