On October 1st, IPIS and its partner Ulula<\/a> were awarded a $118,000 price for their project “Matokeo<\/a>” during the ASM Grand Challenge Award Ceremony. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Artisanal Mining Grand Challenge is a competition, launched by Conservation X labs in October 2019 to encourage innovators, solution-seekers, and unconventional thinkers to present solutions that transform artisanal mining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the 30th<\/sup>\u00a0of September and the 1st<\/sup>\u00a0of October 2020, the ASM Grand Challenge Award Ceremony brought together 11 finalist teams competing for $750,000 in prices, esteemed judges, conservation leaders, storytellers, and tech experts to explore the cutting-edge solutions being developed to make artisanal mining more responsible for people & the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IPIS and Ulula convinced the judges with Matokeo<\/a>, an impact monitoring tool for the ASM sector. Matokeo<\/strong> (impact in Swahili) is a mobile-based technology solution to help monitor social, environmental and human rights hotspots in Eastern Congo and create more cost-effective and miner-centric monitoring systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
