Through the \u201c<em>Voices from Tanzania\u201d&nbsp;studies we seek to <\/em>amplify local civil society and communities\u2019 voices in the broader debates on human rights, resource governance and corporate accountability.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Civil society organisations participating in the <em>\u201cVoices from Tanzania\u201d<\/em> receive methodological and editorial support from IPIS, from designing their case study, to conducting field-based research and writing up their case study. The sector, driven largely by artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM), contributes to the national economy but women\u2014who make up 25\u201330% of the workforce\u2014are often confined to insecure, low-paying roles and see little of its benefits. This report, carried out by HakiMadini with methodological and editorial support from IPIS, focuses on Kalalani ward in Tanga region, a long-standing gemstone-producing area.
