In the clashes at least 13\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ipisresearch.com\/briefing.php?id=60#*SA\">South African<\/a>\u00a0soldiers defending the city were killed. The ousted president fled to<a href=\"http:\/\/ipisresearch.com\/briefing.php?id=60#*Boziz%C3%A9\">Cameroon<\/a>. Seleka\u2019s leader, Michel\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ipisresearch.com\/briefing.php?id=60#*Djotodia\">Djotodia<\/a>, declared himself president, suspended the constitution<strong>, <\/strong>dissolved parliament and the government, but promised to uphold the January Libreville peace agreement, pledging to hold elections within three years. He also reappointed Nicolas\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ipisresearch.com\/briefing.php?id=60#*Tiangaye\">Tiangaye<\/a>\u00a0as prime minister of the three-year transition. After several days of heavy looting in Bangui, the situation is beginning to improve.<br \/>\nSaturday, nearly 250 armed Mai-Mai fighters of the secessionist\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ipisresearch.com\/briefing.php?id=60#*Lubumbashi\">Bakata Katanga<\/a>\u00a0militia showed up in Lubumbashi, capital of DRC\u2019s industrial mining province Katanga, allegedly with the intention to attack Government institutions. After heavy shooting with the army and police, leaving at least 23 Mai-Mai dead and several wounded, the rebels surrendered to the UN mission in the city. Katanga\u2019s governor, Mo\u00efse Katumbi, tried to reassure\u00a0mining companies saying the attack had tarnished the image of the country\u2019s mining hub but had not interrupted operations.<br \/>\nIn the south of South Kivu province, the notorious Mai-Mai leader\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ipisresearch.com\/briefing.php?id=60#*Yakutumba\">Yakutumba<\/a>surrendered to the Congolese army.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>According to local civil society, the mining town of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ipisresearch.com\/briefing.php?id=60#*Manguredjipa\">Manguredjipa\u00a0<\/a>in Lubero territory, north North Kivu, is occupied by the Mai-Mai militia of army deserter Hilaire Kombi. In adjacent Mambasa territory, Ituri (Province Orientale), Mai-Mai leader\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ipisresearch.com\/briefing.php?id=60#*Manu\">Manu\u00a0<\/a>and his men pillaged the town of Mabutua.<br \/>\nTwo men were arrested in the Congolese capital\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ipisresearch.com\/briefing.php?id=60#*Plot\">Kinshasa\u00a0<\/a>on suspicion of conspiring to kill President Kabila.<br \/>\nThursday the UN Security Council is to pass a resolution on the reinforcement of the UN mission in the DR Congo, creating an \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/ipisresearch.com\/briefing.php?id=60#*UNSC\">Intervention Brigade<\/a>\u201d to actively fight the armed groups in the east.<br \/>\nAfter he turned himself in at the US Embassy in Kigali last week, Congolese warlord<a href=\"http:\/\/ipisresearch.com\/briefing.php?id=60#*Bosco\">Bosco Ntaganda<\/a>\u00a0was transferred to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. He appeared before court on Tuesday to verify his identity and to inform him of the charges against him. He faces 10 counts, including rape, murder and using child soldiers. Without being asked, he pleaded not guilty.
