Their hands-on experience, unique knowledge and access to information offer local insights relevant to a large audience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With the editorial support from IPIS, local partners are encouraged to write down their research. This has resulted in a unique series of partner publications, bundled as <a href=\"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/\/home\/capacity-building\/voices-from-the-south\/\"><strong>\u00ab<\/strong><strong>Voices from the South<\/strong><strong>\u00bb<\/strong><\/a>. The \u00abVoices from the South\u00bb\u00a0publications do not represent IPIS\u2019 research or views.\u00a0They are based on the research conducted by our local partners and solely belong to them.<\/p>\n<p>At present, we are developing two dedicated series within the \u00abVoices from the South\u00bb:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/\/home\/capacity-building\/voices-from-the-south\/voices-eastern-drc\/\"><strong>1. VOIX DU CONGO<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">covering a variety of topics on human rights issues related to <strong>mining activities in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo<\/strong> (DRC).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Seven publications into this series, our Congolese partners offer you their view on<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the <a href=\"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/\/publication\/voix-du-congo-etude-sur-lorpaillage-et-lutilisation-du-mercure-dans-lexploitation-miniere-artisanale-en-ituri\/\">toxic practices<\/a> of artisanal gold mining, including <a href=\"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/\/publication\/voix-du-congo-les-creuseurs-miniers-artisanaux-et-communautes-environnantes-victimes-des-services-de%E2%80%A8securite-et-de-la-justice-au-sud-kivu-lest-de-la-rdc\/\">environmental and health effects<\/a> (Ituri, Kivu)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/\/publication\/voix-du-congo-fiscalite-et-parafiscalite-dans-lexploitation-miniere-artisanale-au-tanganyika-en-rdc\/\">legal\/illegal taxation<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/\/publication\/voix-du-congo-la-fraude-et-la-contrebande-miniere-dans-le-territoire-de-kalehe-sud-kivu\/\">networks of fraud in smuggling<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/\/publication\/voix-du-congo-les-creuseurs-miniers-artisanaux-et-communautes-environnantes-victimes-des-services-de%E2%80%A8securite-et-de-la-justice-au-sud-kivu-lest-de-la-rdc\/\">extortion practices<\/a> related to artisanal mining (South Kivu, Tanganyika)<\/li>\n<li>the <a href=\"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/\/publication\/voix-du-congo-la-place-de-la-femme-dans-lexploitation-miniere-artisanale-dans-le-territoire-de-masisi-legislation-et-pratique-du-terrain\/\">role of women in mining<\/a>, but also their <a href=\"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/\/publication\/voix-du-congo-lexploitation-sexuelle-des-filles-mineures-dans-les-zones-minieres-de-la-province-du-sud-kivu-en-republique-democratique-du-congo\/\">sexual abuse and exploitation<\/a> (North and South Kivu)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Screen-Shot-2018-08-30-at-14.28.16.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7705 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Screen-Shot-2018-08-30-at-14.28.16-300x229.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Screen-Shot-2018-08-30-at-14.28.16-300x229.png 300w, https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Screen-Shot-2018-08-30-at-14.28.16.png 331w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With multiple challenges persisting in DRC\u2019s mining sector, IPIS continues its support and capacity building efforts for DRC\u2019s civil society.
