The NBA will result in a comprehensive overview of the alignment of Belgium with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalbaselineassessment.be\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10012\" src=\"https:\/\/ipisresearch.be\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Screen-Shot-2020-07-23-at-16.59.04-300x221.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"421\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalbaselineassessment.be\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Discover the Belgian NBA Website<\/a><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">dd<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The NBA is executed by a research consortium under the coordination of the Research Institute for Work and Society of the University of Leuven (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hiva.be\/EN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HIVA-KU Leuven<\/a>) and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uantwerpen.be\/en\/research-groups\/law-and-development\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Law and Development Research Group<\/a>\u00a0of the University of Antwerp. IPIS addresses the negative impacts of businesses on human rights in conflict areas and high risk areas (CAHRAs).<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">dhd<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">IPIS assesses the role of the Belgian state to ensure that companies operating in CAHRAs are not involved in human rights abuses. The team will research the extent to which Belgium\u2019s current practices, legislation, regulations, and enforcement measures address the risk of companies\u2019 involvement in gross human rights abuses. Belgium\u2019s role in sectoral initiatives will also be assessed. The team also analyses the extent to which Belgium\u2019s assistance to companies helps them address the heightened risks of violations.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">kjd<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Secondly, IPIS assesses the<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>efforts of Belgian companies to comply with the UNGPs in CAHRAs. Companies that operate or are based in Belgium, but have a business relationship with entities operating in CAHRAs, are expected to avoid causing or contributing to adverse human rights impacts. The team will specifically look at the following economic sectors that can have operations in CAHRAs: diamonds and precious metals, metals, textiles, food and electronics.
